1927年，16岁的刘阳生进入新加坡华侨中学读书。在校期间，任学校青年团总支书记、小坡庄青年团书记，后调至新加坡市团委工作。1929年，加入中国共产党。1930年在学校被捕，获释后，返吉隆坡市郊家中。</p><p> 1932年，刘阳生返校寻找党组织又被捕，被驱逐出境，在香港、广东又先后2次被捕。</p><p></p><section style="text-align: 1940年秋，刘阳生来到皖南，在新四军战地文化服务处编辑组任编辑。1940年底，随军到盐城新四军《（苏北）抗敌报》社<span style="color: rgb(153, 153, 153);">（疑为《江淮日报》社）</span>工作，后转盐阜区党委民运干部、行政干部培训班，任教育科科长。</p><p> 1941年11月，刘阳生被任命为淮安县委秘书。1942年1月，回盐阜党校任教育科科长。1943年6月，任阜宁县委组织部部长。1944年4月，任建阳县委书记兼独立团政委。<span style="letter-spacing: 0.034em;">1947年底，刘阳生到三地委任第三中心县委书记。</span></p><p><span style="letter-spacing:
